United Family Medicine is a Federally-Qualified Health Center in St. Paul, where patients receive community-based Family Practice medical care in addition to mental health, dentistry, social work and other integrated services. JOB SUMMARY:

The Grant Writer will research, draft, and write coherent, organized, and compelling grant proposals. You will apply your knowledge of fundraising methods and plans to reach income grant funding goals. You will collaborate with team leadership in the UFM organization to assist with other fundraising projects and develop relationships with key leadership. The Grant Writer oversees the process and production of all materials related to the grant application process from identifying and qualifying prospects, to writing proposals and interim and final reports, to collecting data, budgets, providing metrics, and all relevant documents from a variety of departments to final submission. The Grant Writer reports to the Director of Chief Experience Officer to ensure alignment with United Family Medicine’s overall mission and goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsibility for researching, writing, compiling, and managing the timeline of all grants including maintenance and oversight of workflow processes and procedures to ensure accurate and efficient collection of metrics and timely proposal submission. 
  • Write grant applications and all reports and conduct prospect research on new opportunities that align United Family Medicine’s mission. Grant writing will be primarily to private foundations; however, expansion of UFM’s government grant applications will be required. 
  • Work with all departments to collect and synthesize data. Oversees grant workflow processes related to data entry to ensure adequate internal controls and that all grants reporting of data is accurate. 
  • Provide communication with Director of Chief Experience Officer between program, finance, and other staff so that all activities related to grant data collection, reporting, and proposal submission are smoothly implemented. 
  • Ensure compliance with HRSA, IRS regulations, and foundations’ requirements for grants. 
  • Work closely with the Director of Chief Experience Officer to respond to requests for special reports, collaterals, and non-grant materials with a strategic perspective. 
  • Provide general support to the development department during peak periods. 
  • Perform other duties as needed. 

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Outstanding and exceptional research skills with the ability to locate multiple streams of funding with metrics to support them.
  • Ability to understand the needs of both the UFM organization and the foundations, federal, state, and local opportunities, and availability.
  • Great organizational skills.
  • Competency of understanding and executing complex guidelines into effective concepts and proposals.
  • Must be able to work within deadlines and handle multiple projects at once.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years previous experience as a grant writer in healthcare system or clinic, or social service organizations or other complex nonprofit with multiple constituencies and programs.
  • Commitment to United Family Medicine’s mission. 
  • Excellent writing ability that is clear, concise, and analytic in style. 
  • Ability to write for various audiences including foundations, federal, state, and local donors, and broader general communities. 
  • Comfortable with data management, administration, and metrics.
  • Ability to work part-time hours (20 hours per week) with the potential for full-time hours and benefits.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a clinic office environment. Contact with staff, patients and outside agencies. Possible exposure to communicable disease and medical preparations common to clinic environment.

Beginning January 4, 2022, all job offers are conditioned on the candidate being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a vaccine authorized for emergency use or FDA-approved. A person is only considered “fully vaccinated” two weeks after receiving a single J&J vaccine or a second Pfizer or Moderna vaccine shot.

In addition, job offers made during flu season are conditioned on the candidate receiving the annual flu vaccination before their start date.
